Harry Paye Day
Arr me hearty’s the Pirates of Poole are celebrating Harry Paye Day on Saturday 15th June, with a parade of Pirates at Poole quay.
Who is this Harry Paye we hear you shout. Well let us tell you! Harry was a privateer, also known as a Pirate, in the employment of King Henry 4th. He was tasked with harassing the French, Spanish and Portuguese trading fleets on the high seas. He was so successful that the combined forces of Spain and France attacked Poole in 1406 trying to attack him. However, Harry was so loved that the townspeople took up arms to defend him and smuggled Harry out of the city to safety.
Organised by the Pirates of Poole and supported by BCP Tourism. The popular event gets underway from noon. Starting with a parade of pirates, followed by live music, cannons and lots more Harry Paye Day shenanigans. Not forgetting best dress competitions for the kids. Here at Costume R Us we cater for all pirates, from the captains to the deckhands.
